My Genealogy Research Process
Since my cousin Patricia has done so much research of our families within the United States and also within the 20th century, I felt compelled to go to the "source."
The Latter Day Saints Church is responsible for imaging many genealogical records from countries around the Western world. One can view these images at any of their "Family History Center" locations around the country for a nominal fee.
Since the Rodinis families in the United States came to America from Cherso, I had to get a hold on the records for the country of Croatia. Although the island of Cherso was once a part of the Venetian Republic, it now belongs to Croatia. The birth, death, and marriage records for the island are written in Italian, Latin, and even Glagolitic script and range from the 1570s to 1902. For more information on the history of the island of Cherso, please use the links in the navigation bar.
In addition to the Maticna Knjiga books, we have also used the resources at www.ancestry.com and www.ellisisland.org, and I have receive invaluable translation help from the friendly members at the www.rootsweb.com message boards.
