More Beach Shooting

We're back with Lindsey, partly because I lost a lot of images in a hard drive crash, partly because she's that awesome.

Beach Photoshoot

A new client I met at a fashion mixer last month booked me for some work on the beach. I'm quite pleased with how the good ones came out. Yes, there were 60% bad ones. Well, 60% lost to (slightly) missed focus.

I went into this shoot wanting to do three things: shoot with a Zeiss (manual focus only) lens wide-open, shoot with the sunset on her back, and fill with a really powerful light.

Manual focus proved quite difficult when you've got sweat filling your eyes, a pentaprism screen that isn't made for manual focusing and a healing broken leg wanting to be soaked in ocean water instead of being subjected to strange positions not known since before the fracture. But nevermind all the challenges, we had a blast creating some different images while entertaining the locals' requests for iPhone pictures with "a famous model." Haha. Yeah.

But all in all, we had a blast. Including my friendly photo assistant, Samantha.

Raygun on a boat

By now, everyone's seen the SNL skit/music video for "On a Boat" featuring T-Pain. funny stuff.

Well, we were on a boat, too.

[delayed] Raygun releases "Felicia" video for The Constellations

this is a little delayed, but for those who have not seen it:

we really enjoyed making this video, and their second music video from us ("Perfect Day") will be out in October at the Video Release Party - exact date TBA.

EDIT (11/2009): The video is down for now - The Constellations just signed with Virgin Records recently. Expect something new and excited from them soon!

super busy at work lately. . .

well, I've been really busy at work lately. we're starting to do some more music videos (huge market in atlanta) and we've also a number of other projects going on (CNN, Animal Planet and Discovery Networks).

in this photo, you can see me shooting for a Young Jeezy music video (DP and 1st AC ??). we're shooting another video for him and Nas on Friday.

in photography related news, a band by the name of Seven Story Fall will be at the Rodinis studio this weekend. check them out on MySpace.

that's all for now. . .

all moved in. . .

So this is the main space in the new loft/studio.
I'm setting up a 14'-high and 9'-wide backdrop and I have well over thirty feet of shooting distance.

The TV and sofa have been moved into the second bedroom (the door on the right) that is the Lounge/Office/Dressing Room.

Loving the new place.

In other news, I sold the car and I'm pedaling to work (to the other side of the neighborhood downtown).

Quite a few photoshoots coming up and two weddings (!!), so stay tuned...

what's been happening at work

red in black, originally uploaded by rodinis.

Well, I've not updated in a while - things have been quite busy at work.

We're testing out a new RED One camera, perfecting the workflow before we put it to work. Will post some sample clips at some point.
We're shooting a music/dance sequence this week, utilizing the high frame rate and high resolution.

In other news, I'm moving into the new "Rodinis Studio" next Saturday, the 20th. Exciting. And another surprise that may bring itself to fruition this month or early next.

ciao. . .

look what i found.

look what i found., originally uploaded by rodinis.

I appropriated a Hasselblad 500 C/M this weekend, but it's missing a back. KEH has quite a few but they're all labeled different - some missing dark slides, some not matching their inserts, blah blah blah - and ranging from $59 to $300. I have a few bids out on EBay right now, so if nothing comes of those, I'll try my luck with KEH.

I met with John/Ham today so he could take a look at the 'blad - it's been sitting and hiding in my step-father's house for nearly 15 years. John tinkered with it a bit and loaded his Polaroid back to take a test shot (he brought his entire Hasselblad kit with him to talk shop).

The camera seems to be in great shape and I'll be putting it to good use - I've already planned to use it to take get a new perspective for my upcoming campaign series with a fashion designer. More on that at a later date.

Holiday Parade

Michael on the keys, originally uploaded by rodinis.

I met Andy and Michael of Holiday Parade over a month ago through our mutual friend Anna. They are a great couple of guys with such strong musical presence.

In addition to some band photographs for their MySpace page, I went to the Atlanta show during their Tour in June. You can see more of the images from both sessions in my Bands / Events gallery.

fun in the dryer

tumble dry high heat only., originally uploaded by rodinis.

Carli was posing on top of the dryer, doing laundry in her undies. All I said was that, "I wish we had someone small enough to fit in the dryer."
This is the result of what happened next.

Strobist info: WL 1600 in 2x3' softbox horizontally, above camera right. SB-800 in dryer. Photo straight from the camera.

Remember, tumble-dry on high heat only.
